At the last moment, Featherstar's front paws stopped, and she pushed of the ground hard with her hind feet. She felt her paws lift from the ground and knew she was jumping above Shadowstar's outstretched claws, her belly protected. She felt his claws dig into her back instead. The leader yowled in pain, but she managed to twist around and land on her feet. She had scarcely regained her balance before aiming a vicious blow to his leg.

Not surprisingly the attack missed but Shadowstar had not recovered from the back blast. He stood up and he noticed he was gasping. His breath was harsh. Then, oddly, he started laughing. Laughing like that of an old joke in memory or a memory its self. It was cracked and croaking. Why? Why was he?

Featherstar glared at him. What was he laughing at? Nevertheless, she did not let it distract her. She kept her eyes on him, warily watching his movements. "Please, share the joke, Shadowstar." she said, keeping her voice even.

Nighthunder watched the fight in amazement. He had never imagined that this might happen... It had been a possibility, of course, but he hadn't believed that it could ever occur. Not like this. He clawed at the ground anxiously, his brown-blue eyes flicking from cat to cat.

"Perhaps it is just you they betray, Shadowstar. Or maybe they have no choice but to disobey. But I do not see any WindClan traitors." Featherstar stalled for a moment, indexing her injuries. Numerous cut and scrapes, but nothing too serious. Her breath was still coming evenly -- StarClan knew, that was good. Her stamina could last a long time, but she didn't know how long she could hold out against a fellow leader. "So then let's end this, Shadowstar." Featherstar began to jog in circles around Shadowstar. Suddenly she broke from the circle, running straight for his side. It looked as if she was planning to bowl him over. At the last second one paw flicked out, claws extended, to aim at his left foreleg, trying to trip him -- and maybe hamstring him -- in the same movement. The attack forced her into a vulnerable position, but if she moved fast enough, it wouldn't matter.

Shadowstar knew the attack well and saw it coming but it was to fast to avoid the swipe. Luckily he managed to swipe at the same point of time. Would he catch her? Would he miss?

Featherstar felt her blow hit home and nearly purred with satisfaction. Then she felt Shadowstar's counterstrike, his claws in her shoulder. She suppressed a yowl of pain and twisted, desperately trying to get his paw.

((But no kills  Right?)) Something surged through Shadowstar and he dug the claws in deeper, holding it for a moment and then ripped them out at such a speed. The only problem was that the claws stamped into his other paw. He didnt make a noise and wrenched them out again. |

Featherstar backed clear of Shadowstar. She tested her shoulder. It hurt, but she could fight past the pain. Featherstar fought for patience and waited for Shadowstar. It was his move, now.

Featherstar waited with him, never relaxing for a second. Her shoulder ached, but she ignored it. Featherstar sidestepped Shadowstar's attack when he finally moved and spun, her unsheathed claws in the perfect place to dig into his sides and hold fast.

This was about the first and perhaps the only time Shadowstar managed to dodge the attack. He tripped though. It didnt hurt but it would delay for a moment to allow Featherstar to think. He scrambled back up and swiped fearcly at her.

Featherstar seized her chance. She aimed a blow at Shadowstar.
Sudden pain lanced through her paw and up through her leg. A yowl ripped through her throat. She gazed awestruck at her paw. It had connected with Shadowstar's swipe. Their claws dug into each other's pads. Featherstar dug her claws in, determination flashing across her face. He would have to retract his claws first.
