Images swirled in her head, confusing flashes of color and words. She knew that she was dreaming. A fight with Shadowstar? Yeah, right. Like that would happen.
Suddenly she became aware of a steady, painful, throbbing in her head. At first, she thought that she had hit her head when she fell asleep last night. She had been tired after being up for thirty-six hours straight. But then the pain spread to the rest of her body. Her tail flicked, and she groaned. Moving made it worse.
Slowly, her mind labored to wrap around the truth. She had fought with Shadowstar! But who had won...? She couldn't even remember collapsing, but she must have. Why where they fighting, again?
Then the answer hit her, and she tried to leap to her paws. Instead she made a strange lurch and yowled in agony. Her entire body was stiff, and her paws and tail felt like they were on fire. She dropped back to the ground.
Warily she glanced around, piecing together her location. Medicine Cat's den, certainly...Oakfur's? She hoped so. "Oakfur?" she called weakly, her voice hoarse .

A clatter of claws could be heard against the rock in the den. The noise was heavy and seemed perhaps a little to big and fast for OakFur. The scraping echoed across the walls. The cat was trying to get to her but kept dropping something and going back to pick it up. This was obvious because the clattering kept starting and stopping.
Finally a towering reddish cat arrived at her side. LightningFire- The deputy of WindClan- had arrived. He dropped some poppy seeds and cobwebs and then looked gently at her.
"Eat them" He murmered, pushing the small seeds near to her muzzle.
Then he lay the cobwebs on her wounds, slowly removing the crimson blood from her matted fur.

"Lightningfire." Featherstar breathed a sigh of relief. Obediently she licked up one of the poppy seeds, to help the pain, but didn't eat the rest - she wasn't ready to fall asleep quite yet. "Where's Oakfur? And-" Suddenly she cut off, unsure for a moment. She lowered her voice. "And Nighthunder? And what does the Clan know? I-" She fell silent again, images from last night filling her head. Or was it last night? "How long have I been asleep, anyway?"

LightningFire was standing beside her and turned his great muzzle away from her when she mentioned NightThunder's name. She wouldn't be happy about what he was about to tell her.
"NightThunder left ShadowClan. He now wonders as a loner. Nobody has seen him since your fight with ShadowStar. Some say he stays with Storm... Some say he is..." He broke off and walked away to bring more of the herbs out to her. He looked at them desperatly. He didn't know the first thing about herbs and all that junk. He sniffed one cautiously and wrinkled his nose in disgust. The sweet scent was overwhelming and mixed in with tangs of sourness.
Must be it... He thought, remembering the things that OakFur had told him to do.
"LightningFire, Once you have finished with the cobwebs and poppy seeds, Find the Marigold and chew it to a pulp" OakFur said cooly. It was all so obvious to him. But to LightningFire... It was like learning the whole warrior code all over again with even more detail!
LightningFire just stared back desperatly. OakFur sighed and pushed a few of the over-sweet scented leaves to the deputy's paws.
"Smell them" OakFur ordered firmly. LightningFire tilted his head as if to say, 'Are you serious?'. OakFur just sat and waited, tail flicking patiently. Finally, LightningFire took in a great whiff. He was forced to hold his breath the next moment. He coughed out the smell and shook his head until most of it wafted away but the sour tangs still hung in his lungs.
With that OakFur nodded and walked away, leaving the great cat to the task ahead of him.
LightningFire chewed the leaves into a soft pulp which he rubbed into her wounds. She would have to go through a lot of wincing and pain on this one. Marigold was a great remidy for sores, cuts a wounds but it stung like a thorn in your pad.

Featherstar felt like she had been clawed across the face. She knew that something like that was going to happen, but it still came as a shock. And it was her fault, too. She had asked him to betray his Clan, and now he was away from the Clan he loved so much. Again.
Suddenly she winced and hissed softly. That Marigold stung, like always. She twisted towards Lightningfire, ignoring her protesting muscles. "Some warning, please?" Suddenly something he had said registered in her head. "They say what, Lightningfire? And you still haven't told me how much the Clan knows, or where Oakfur is."

The great red cat turned his head away. His eyes were small and narrowed to tiny slits in his bright amber eyes. He took in a deep breath and began to talk... Half harshly and half gently.
"They say he may have left the lands... And not ever to return but I do not think that" He growled. His eyes flashed with an unknown emotion.
"OakFur is out collecting his herbs. The clan... They know everything. Half the clan was there for StarClan's sake" He breathed.

Oakfur padded in on light paws,a mouthful of blue flowers and a pawful of cobwebs. He dropped these, however,as soon as he realised Featherstar had awoken."Featherstar!"He hurried over and nodded to Lightningtail in approval."Good job."But his tone was not of the most cheeriness, even for himself. He looked to Featherstar, gave her a once-over,then turned to Lightningfire."Lightningfire, your help has been very useful. But if you please,I'm going to quietly ask you to leave, and I would like it much if you obeyed."His face was almost emotionless, but in his pale green eyes still glinted a spark.

Featherstar winced and dropped her head back on her paws. Everything. She had hoped that cats would have enough tact, that the whole story had not gotten out, and that she could have made up a nice story full of half-truths that would explain everything and hurt no one. But she didn't have that kind of luck. "Hello, Oakfur," she muttered as the tom walked in. She slowly registered his mood, but kept quiet about it. If he wanted to talk to her, and her alone, then that was fine. She'd find out what was eating at Oakfur eventually. "Go ahead, Lightningfire. And thanks. For everything."

Oakfur nodded to Lightningfire as he left, then sat down and curled his tails around his paws, staring at Featherstar. He seemed to scrutinizing her once more, squinting slightly. "Featherstar..."His voice was slightly soft and comforting, but then flew into a rage. "How could you be so...so...selfish!"Oakfur jumped to his paws and his tail thrashed the air behind him. "You've put the whole clan and more importantly,a few members of Shadowclan,on the tight wire!Do you have any idea of whats going on?Darkblood tried to defend you and then had to leave his kits and mate! Not to mention others. And Nighthunder, exiled from his own clan!" He managed to keep his voice to a low, aggitated growl. "This isn't going to help,Featherstar. The future is now darker for the clans. For all we know,Shadowstar is plotting against us right at this very moment!" He took a deep breath and exhaled, causing his whiskers to quiver. He opened his mouth as if to say more, but he shut it,defeated. What more could he say?

Featherstar winced. The words hurt, more than Oakfur could ever know, because he was right. She was the one that had convinced Nighthunder when he had wanted to stop. "I wasn't even deputy when I met him," she muttered. She wasn't trying to defend herself, or explain her actions. She just felt the need to tell someone, anyone, about what she had done. And why, and for how long. Great StarClan, she hadn't told anyone since...since her kits had died. "It was a Gathering. I was a new warrior, and Blackstar had just become leader. He was a new warrior, too. He was so excited, so loyal..." she sounded tired, maybe even old. "He knew what to say to make me feel better, like I was more important then I was. Is it any wonder I had his kits?" She wheezed a laugh. Her lungs were begining to hurt. "You of all cats should have known I would be the one cat to take a mate outside of the Clan, and be able to keep it secret for so long. Not even StarClan protested. Or maybe they did, when they took my kits, and my friend, and her kits, too, just for good measure."

Oakfur sat back down and curled his tail once more, head tilted, listening. His big green eyes just stared for a while, and then he let out a withering sigh. "Yes,maybe they did..." He said quietly. His claws shot in and out boredly. He dropped his gaze from Featherstar's and watched them. He got up and padded past Featherstar to his stocks of herbs, rummaging through them. He stopped, though, and took in a sharp breath. "I...." Oakfur opened his maw again, but still had nothing to say. He whipped his tail-tip around and began to attack it with licks, trying to fill some way to fill the awkward space between them.

"I'm sorry. Truly I am." Featherstar looked up at him, her eyes earnest. "I can't say you would have done the same. You probably would not have. And I am sorry that I've caused all this. But tell me, Oakfur, do you really know where Nighthunder is? I need to make this right." She winced again, not at her current pain, but of that which was sure to come. Suddenly she realized that this was going to hurt more than she had thought. How much more of this could she take?

"No. I wouldn't of." He said calmly, but his thoughts drifted to Mapleclaw. That isn't the same, he told himself, then looked at Featherstar, wondering whether to tell her. "The Barn. The last time I knew." He shifted back to his herbs and began organizing."I'll tell Lightningfire, if you wish."

"Tell Lightningfire what?" Featherstar shifted unconsiously, sending spears of pain through her body. She was tired; her head felt clouded, heavy. She couldn't think straight. She closed her eyes for a moment. Then she opened them again, struggling against her body's urges to escape the pain and sleep.

"That you'll be leaving. But not until you can at least walk." He said, eyeing her silently and flicking his tail. He stared at her. "I'm not surprised, Featherstar. I'm just surprised you didn't stop." He padded past her and stuck his head out of the den, glancing around, then turned to her. "I'll be right back. Don't let me find you've moved. It'll heal faster if you stay still."
