A lengthly and slender-framed she-cat silently made her way through the night down to the Smallstream. Painful memories glistened in her eyes, and she lowered herself to drink. As the memories rushed about inside her head, she froze, tongue halfway down to drink from the stream. Oh, how she wished she could have taken everything back! She wished StarClan would have let her stay, let her stay with ThunderClan instead of giving her a lack of bravery and making her run.
I'm so sorry, Twisterheart. I didn't know...
Twisterheart had been like a brother to Autumnfur, as they had both been raised by the same queen. But the difference had been that Autumnfur hadn't been her daughter, whilst Twisterheart had been her son. Her cowardly ways had caused them both to run, as Twisterheart had begun to discover love much deeper than that between siblings for her.
The cawing of a raven made her look up, and she felt a strange pit in her stomach. Twisterheart had run as well, and he had, she guessed, died. They were seperated, and never found each other after. Sometimes, she felt as if the pain was eased by her friends. Proudspirit had helped it, but as she left him, the pain returned. And meeting Mapleclaw and Lightningtail, that had been wonderful! But the pain remained.
Sighing as she watched the raven land on the corpse of a rabbit likely left by a wandering rogue or a wolf, Autumnfur tore her eyes away from the creature. She couldn't bear to watch this, it reminded her only of Twisterheart, and how he had been fast enough to catch even rabbits that had wandered in to ThunderClan territory from WindClan territory.
But now, it was all over. Everything was gone, or at least, everything Autumnfur had once lived for. How could StarClan have given her such cowardice, enough to abandon even her love in a time of fear? She shuddered, trying hard not to imagine if Twisterheart's corpse was as mangled as that of the rabbit being devoured by the raven.
Why can't anyone just save me from this living hell? She silently asked herself that question, shuddering and pulling her muzzle away from the Smallstream. Twisterheart, if you watch me from StarClan, please help me! And yet, even as she sent this silent prayer to StarClan and Twisterheart, she knew that it was no good. Not even StarClan could ease the pain now.
