A pitch black smudge stood out against the light-colored rocks, motionless. It was splattered with red spots, looking much like blood.
It was a huge tom; his name was Loveless.
His deep, emotionless violet eyes were closed; the only thing that moved was an occasional twitch of the tail.
Next to him was a silver-pelted she-cat, her glittery pelt splotched with black spots. Her equally deep, emotionless eyes were like pools of molten gold, staring out into the darkness of the nighttime woods beyond.
Her name was Visionpaw, a mere apprentice, yet she already fought like a warrior. She had repayed her debt to the clan that had taken her in, much more than was wordlessly asked for.
The two cats just sat there, motionless and like two blurs against the rock that they laid on, the only movement the occasional twitch of the tail or neading of the claws.
